Viru S.A.
Customer
Viru S.A. is a leading company in the Peruvian agribusiness sector offering fresh, canned and frozen products to the global markets. The company is part of Viru Group which also has operations in US and EU.
Funding Objective
DEG’s funding aims to finance permanent working capital derived from expected business growth.
Reasons for financing
The creation of formal jobs is still a major challenge in Peru. Viru is an important rural employer and holds Global Gap, BRC, ISO 14001 and other certifications. The company is a long-term strategic partner with high E&S standards. Several BSS measures over the last years have been implemented, together with DEG, for example, a Resource Efficiency Check (2014), Covid prevention measures and community support (2021), Integral Risk Management Framework (2023-2024) and a new Resource Efficiency Check with focus on carbon reduction framework (2024). There is high potential for additional BSS measures.
The project thus is expected to contribute in particular to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (SDG 8), “No Poverty” (SDG 1) and “Zero Hunger” (SDG2).
DEG´s role will be to provide long-term financing working capital to an agribusiness company, supporting one of the highest growing economic activities in the country and an experienced customer. The investment contributes to DEG´s strategy of supporting SME in developing countries. The project supports German Business as the company is an important supplier to German companies in the food/retail sector.
