AIIF4 is an Africa focused infrastructure private equity fund managed by African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), a subsidiary of the internationally listed Old Mutual Group.
AIIM actively manages investments across Africa and has assets under management of more than USD 2 billion with a track record extending across six African infrastructure funds.
AIIM, arguably the most experienced infrastructure assed manager in Africa, manages a large number of assets in the infrastructure space across various sector like energy, transport and digital infrastructure.
Funding Objective
AIIF4 focusses on assets and sectors in regions and sectors where infrastructure is deficient and the investments significantly contribute to bridging the infrastructure gap in Africa.
Reasons for financing
The fund will directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 “No poverty” by promoting economic growth through development of infrastructure, 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy” by supporting renewable energy projects to enable access to energy for all and 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” by building resilient infrastructure, inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation.
In addition, AIIF4 implements good corporate governance and best industry standards in its investee companies which is beneficial for the investee companies, the sponsors and raises general standards in the sector over time.
DEG actively supports AIIF4 in providing guidance through its Advisory Board observer representation, and through its ESG subcommittee representation will contribute to adopting international best practices on environmental and social guidelines, reporting as well as legal fund terms. DEG also plays a role as a provider of long-term capital and potential co-investment partner.
The projects contributes to DEG´s strategy of supporting infrastructure project with a positive impact on development in Africa.
